Have you ever felt like you're sitting on a goldmine of potential on LinkedIn, but you're just not sure how to tap into it?

You're not alone.

Many of us are in the same boat, struggling to convert views, connections, and followers into something more meaningful.

Over the past two years, I've been coaching my LinkedIn Client Accelerator students on this very topic.

The focus is not just on content engagement and profile views, but on conversion.

After all, what's the point of all those views and connections if you can't do something meaningful with them?

Understanding the Reality of LinkedIn Conversion

The truth is, many of those who might be interested in what you have to offer are already watching.

They're lurking in the shadows, viewing your profile, and engaging with your content.

But how do you get them to step forward?

How do you convert these passive viewers into active participants in your network?

The Problem with Direct Messaging

Many of us have tried the direct approach: "DM me and let's jump on a call."

But how often does that really work?

The reality is, this approach often falls flat.

Why?

Because it's too direct, too forward.

It doesn't give the other person a chance to warm up to you and your offer.

So, what's the solution?

Here are some strategies I've found to be effective in improving conversion on LinkedIn:

1. Warm First

Your pitch will always fail if it's used to start a new conversation.

Think about it - would YOU buy this way?

Instead, start by building a relationship.

Engage with their content, show interest in their work, and establish a connection before you make your pitch.

This approach takes more time and effort, but it's worth it.

It builds trust and rapport, which are essential for successful conversion.

2. Look Beyond the Obvious

It's easy to focus on the people who are actively engaging with your content - the ones who are liking, commenting, and sharing.

But what about the quiet ones?

The ones who are viewing your profile and reading your posts, but not saying a word?

Buyers are rarely bold.

They lurk and look, rather than jump into your inbox with a message.

So, check out your profile views and those that liked or commented on a post.

They're there, just watching quietly.

Don't ignore these silent viewers.

They may be your most valuable potential connections.

Reach out to them, engage with them, and see what happens.

3. Don't Wait

Sitting patiently for the inbox to ring is madness.

Get out there and engage instead!

Send a message saying you saw they were checking you out.

Thank them for it and ask what caught their eye.

Now, we have a conversation.

This proactive approach can be incredibly effective.

It shows initiative and interest, and it opens the door for further conversation and potential collaboration.

4. Get off the DMs

Remember when I said the magic is in the DMs?

Well, that's only partially true.

Text conversations can't beat the reality of video calls.

Don't take forever to pivot from the chat window to that call!

Video calls add a personal touch that text conversations simply can't match.

They allow for real-time interaction, non-verbal communication, and a deeper level of connection.

5. Bring Some Finesse!

Knowing exactly WHAT to say and when to say it is key.

This is how you can make people receptive rather than repulsed by your approach.

It's not just about what you say, but how you say it.

Be genuine, be respectful, and always remember that you're interacting with a real person, not just a potential sale.
